The WCC has selected the American Cancer Society as it's main charitable organization to sponsor. During the course of this year, the committee is involved in numerous fundraising activities which include such events as ACS's annual Relay For Life and a Jambalaya Cook-Off.
Last year the organization raised $4,500.00 through community donations and sponsorships. We will be adding another fundraising event this year called "Tug-Of-War for Cancer that will "pit" teams against each other vying for the coveted four (4) foot high Budweiser trophy. The ACS's annual Relay For Life is a twenty-four (24) hour day of walking and promoting awareness of the impact cancer has on all of us. Last year's "Relay" was a twenty (20) campsite event with live music, good food and lots of information. Each team selects a theme for their campsite, and las year ours was a Rock 'n Roll return to a 1950's style diner. We were fortunate enough to receive an award for having the best costumes at the event.
This year our committee has grown larger than last year's and we are looking forward to another productive, fun-filled fundraising effort. Nancy Cornelius, Chairperson and herself a cancer survivor, wants us to better last year's effor by twenty-five percent (25%) and we believe we're ready for the challenge.
